A fine hooked needle draws silk floss and gold zari into flowering vines, filling the cloth until little of the base remains.

The artisan
“A panel takes four months. It should hang for forty years.”
Hansiba Rabari embroiders in a village outside Bhuj, counting suf stitches from the reverse of the cloth so that nothing is ever drawn on the surface first. A large panel keeps her hands busy for a season.
We buy at prices set by the makers, in advance, and record the name of the embroiderer and her village on every label.
